Great is God's faithfulness... || sydneyelizabeth.blog

The more you read my work, the more tweets of mine you see and the more things you see I share on Facebook, you’ll learn more about my heart.

One thing you will learn is how much I love hymns. The saints of the ages who were inspired to write these lyrics were definitely gifted. They were definitely Spirit-filled. And they definitely had to be unaware of how their God-filled words would stand the test of time.

An absolute classic that most of us are even vaguely familiar with is Great is Thy Faithfulness. Here is one of my favorite performances of it, by the Gaither crew.

(Note: they skip one verse, but I’ve included it below.)

I want to break down each line and flash them to the world, “LOOK!”

“Look at who my God is!”

Sometimes I wonder how people can even sit down while they sing this song. My heart bursts with gratitude and worship to my God and I want to fall on my knees or shout to the rooftops. It’s like I’m not sure how much I  can take of God’s mercies, his grace and all his other holy attributes.

Last week I shared my thoughts on a book about the attributes of God. I found this video while I was still reading it and perhaps that is why the lyrics affected me so. The book was a 5-star read and had a high impact on my life. Regardless of why I like this hymn’s lyrics, I hope they affect you, I hope they encourage you and I hope that you see the Hope that we all have available to us.

May God richly encourage and bless you today as you listen to this song.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God My Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not; Thy compassions, they fail not.
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

[Chorus]
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above.
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

[Chorus]

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow —
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

[Chorus]
