As you might expect in a book with this title (and being reviewed on a blog that only reviews Christian books), The Story of Christmas tells a version of the original nativity scene. It is a simple, well-designed board book great for young toddlers and up.
It’s important to note that this is not the full story of Jesus’ birth. It omits many details for the sake of writing for young children. It does not mention the fact that He is the Messiah, that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit or other Biblical components of the story.
More specifically, rather, it is explaining to children why we give gifts at Christmas and how it is related to Jesus being born.
It’s well-written and I’m quite the fan of the “The Story Of” books. We own The Story of Thanksgiving and The Story of Easter, as well. My toddler son enjoys reading them over and over.
This is definitely a fun addition to our family’s collection of Christmas books, and it’s actually the only one we keep out all year!
